I'm sure the majority of people have heard of gluten free diets by now.  In the supermarkets we see gluten free on the labels, restaurants are now including it in the menus, and we hear all the gluten free jokes.  For a population of individuals with celiacs being gluten free is no joke. In addition to celiacs, gluten tends to be on the rise with food sensitivities producing numerous symptoms we don't even associate with our diet.

But, why?

I often hear patients, friends and family asking the question, "But, why?"  It is usually in the context of Uncle Joe was so healthy, was always so thin, he was active, but why did he have the stroke?  My own brother, but why did he develop a brain tumor?  The people that live in my moms neighborhood, but why has every home within 1/2 mile have family members that have been diagnosed or died from cancer in last 3 yrs?  I often hear from my patients, but why me?

This week at a local business meeting we had an interesting topic, "If you were going to a deserted island what one product from your business would you take?"  Even though this question was all in fun, it prompted me to think about every thing that I offer to my patients.  I often have favorite products for favorite ailments.  The botanical choices are unlimited.  The homeopathic choices would last a lifetime if needed.  The nutritional products could sustain my life until I'm rescued.  A pharmaceutical agent could mean life or death in so
